ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

SCE Group operates in industries that are often perceived as “environmentally unhealthy”. Heavy industries are seen as the source of much of the pollution problems of the world whilst mining and quarrying can be seen as despoilers of the physical environment.

Currently our modern living standards demand products and services arising from these industries. However, the clients to whom SCE Group provides its services are major operators in Australia and take their environmental responsibilities very seriously as do SCE Group and its individual business units.

SCE Group has an Environment Sustainability Programme which reports directly to the shareholders of the company. Its charter is to measure the carbon footprint of the Group and investigate and implement strategies and programmes to reduce the Group’s environmental impact.

SCE Group’s environmental responsibility arises from several sources:

  1. Clients have their own emission reduction targets which SCE Group is required to meet and exceed as far as its operations contribute to achieving those targets.
  2. SCE Group is working with its clients to identify byproducts generated by their production processes which are suitable for reprocessing or recycling.
  3. SCE Group and its business units use heavy vehicles and other equipment in the conduct of their business and have a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of that equipment.
  4. Increasing volumes of building and demolition waste and production byproducts are being recycled as aggregate and roadbase by SCE Group thereby reducing the volume of quarried product used for these purposes.
  5. SCE Group has rehabilitation plans for the restoration of the environmental sustainability of quarried sites.
