SCE’s Renee Blakemore is one of an increasing number of women donning hi-vis and hard hats in a predominantly male workforce.
For the last five years Blakemore has worked as a weighbridge operator and transport allocator for the industrial recycling company at its Hebden Quarry and Mayfield Recycling Facility.
While Blakemore has heard a truckie story or two and dodges kangaroos on her way to work, she is far from your stereotypical hi-vis worker.
She is an identical twin, plays four musical instruments and has not one but two ‘clowns of the canine world’ to look after in her spare time.
Recently transitioning into a sales and account management role, Blakemore is nervously excited about the new challenge.
“I have enjoyed all my roles, the weighbridge is very fast paced at Mayfield and can be challenging at times, but I am excited to be in a new role.
“I’m new to the sales role so everything is new and challenging. I’m enjoying learning new things,” she said.

That diversity also extends to offering flexible and tailored solutions to the Industrial, Mining and Transport sectors.
“I also have my front-end loader competency, and from time to time worked in a Loader in the yard when needed,” she added.
With commitment such as that, there’s no doubt Blakemore is part of the changing face of industry, helping to break down barriers and contributing to a more inclusive and diverse culture.
In My Own Words
Where are you working now?
I am working three days a week in Sales at SCE Mayfield and two days a week at Hebden on the weighbridge and truck allocations.
Tell us about some of the people you’ve met while working on the weighbridge? I’m sure there were some interesting characters!
Every truck driver has a story to tell and loves a chat. I’ve made some really good working relationships over the last five years.
What has been your best experience while working for SCE?
The best thing is having a job that you enjoy going to each day. And the worst? When I broke my foot in 2016 at home and had to have a considerable amount of time off work!
What is the least favourite thing about your job?
Trying not to hit any Kangaroos on my way into Hebden each week.
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I am an identical twin.
What do you do in your spare time?
I enjoy spending time with family & friends. I also have two Pug dogs that love the beach.
Where is your favourite place to visit?
I’ve been to many places, but Bangkok is my favourite. So much to see and do.
Do you have a favourite movie?
Any Quentin Tarantino movie because he is an eccentric genius.
Do you have a secret talent that no one knows about?
I can play the piano, guitar, saxophone and harmonica.
Finally, if you weren't so damn good at your job, what would you be doing?
Travelling, of course!
