In 2021 SCE proudly sponsored the Illawarra Stingrays, a leader in Women’s elite level football while actively promoting grass roots football for the benefit of all women and girls.
The Stingrays celebrate the diverse abilities of women and girls and enables them to benefit from, excel at and fulfil their potential through football.
The relationship doesn't end there though. Stingrays U14’s coach and senior player Kaelah Austin, recently joined SCE as a Trainee Equipment Operator at our West Cliff operations. We caught up with Kaelah recently to see how she is settling into her new role.
How long have you’ve been with SCE? 4 months
What was your first impression when you started? The shock of how big the machinery actually was.
What have you been working on lately? There's something new going on everyday but lately helping the guys build new ramps on the emplacement.
What is the favourite part of your job? Any chance spending time in the machines but the lunch time quiz with the crew is pretty hard to beat.
What is the most challenging about your role? With everything being new trying to find your groove at the start but everyone up at West Cliff is so supportive and keen to help you out it makes it a lot easier.
What might people be surprised to know about you? I love watching sports / crime documentaries.
What do you like to do in your spare time? Spending all my time on the sports fields or with family and friends.
Do you have a secret talent? It's 100% not a talent but I don't mind a dance, especially if it's an old-school 80s classic.
Finally, if you weren't so damn good at your job, what would you be doing? Would love to be playing some type of sport everyday.
