Founded by Paul Newman in 1961, South Coast Equipment, is a family owned company with a proud heritage. Now known simply as SCE, the business was centred on providing material handling services and soon thereafter by-product solutions to Port Kembla steelworks and local coal mines.
Steel services expanded naturally into material handling and transport services across a broad range of major industrial sectors including mining, smelting, cement and glass.
Emplacement operations for coal washery refuse from mines, and slags from steel plants also developed at this time.
Between 1962 and 2000, SCE ran major sand dredging operations in the Illawarra. Whilst those sand dredging operations have now ceased, they proved a major impetus for the development of SCE’s quarrying and recycling operations that today form a major part of the SCE suite of business.
Thanks to all our people’s collective efforts in those years, SCE evolved to become a successful business. Our reliability, agility and adaptability have delivered for us a strong foundation for our people, their families, our customers and communities.
